The Educational Network ATHINA implements in the framework of Action “Teaching Cognitive Objects & Pedagogical Skills” a Specialization Program in Special Needs Education and Training in collaboration with the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens‘ research and development program “Support for the Development of Skills and Human Resources for Lifelong Learning.
The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, within the framework of the Lifelong Learning Education activities it organizes, will implement the “Specialization in Special Education and Training” training program of 400 hours.
This educational action is part of the research project “Support for Development of Skills and Certification of Human Resources for Lifelong Learning” of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens with research code 12728.
The training methodology follows the model of “mixed learning” Distance learning with asynchronous education methods (268 hours), (100 hours) practice in case studies, modern on-line tele-education (8 hours), a four-hour advisory meeting ) and 20 hours for the final work.
The main purpose of the program is to provide specialized knowledge in special education and training so that the trainees attending the program will be able to evaluate pupils with special educational needs by using appropriate tools and to design intervention programs.
The trainees attending the program will be able to be ranked and matched in the auxiliary tables:
- appointment of alternates and work in special education structures according to the Law, Law 4415/2016, Government Gazette 159 A / 06.09.2016 and article 48.
- as candidates for education (School Unit Managers), in accordance with Law No. 4473 Issue 1/30/5/2017, Government Gazette 78/2017.
Based on the above, it is assumed that the purpose of this training program is to provide specialized knowledge in special education and training so that the participants upon completion can be able to work on special education and training and its structures and be able to support specific educational needs of students.

- TEI and IEK graduates
- Social Work,
- Child nurses,
- Speech therapists,
- Physiotherapists,
- Nurses,
- Special Preschool Education and others.
- Students of the University of Athens and TEI
- and those who want to take up special education and training.
The program of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens is being implemented in cooperation with the Educational Network ATHINA, which will contribute to the implementation of the program in the areas outside of the Athens University. The program will also be implemented in partner cities with selected collaborating local lifelong learning providers who will host the program on their premises.
